Four years after the release of their debut EP, Sicilian quartet Human Machine goes full circle and returns to Engrave Ltd with another set of dance floor cuts. Formed by Mauro di Martino, better known under his Musumeci moniker, Paolo Lauretta, Francesco Sorrentino and Simone Carpenzano, the project explores more intimate atmospheres on this 3-track EP, whilst maintaining their trademark sound characteristic.
trndmsk: What inspired you to produce the EP?
The Human Machine production is a team work involving four people so it is not so simple to talk about the source of inspiration for each track we produce. In this case there is a particular story about the names of the tracks and about its musical concept. Everything is clearly inspired to the after parties (In this specific case “Remate” is how Colombians call after parties) and to their more intimistic atmospheres. We wanted to create a deeper and more suitable music also for those kind of occasions.
Where did you record it? And how?
We use different kind of sequencers to work on the ideas, some of us works on Ableton others on Logic.
Some ideas get start on Ableton but almost every time we finish them on Logic. We used some basic hardware like couple of drum machines (Digitakt, TR8, Linn Drum) and synths (Nord Lead, Minimoog, Novation Bass Station II) but also combining them with our beloved Arturia’s plugins. As usual in our work flow, there were some bits and pieces coming from each of us. We choose what was more promising and we developed following our rule: to make music in order to dance.
How did you get in contact with the record label?
Engrave Ltd label boss is Musumeci, also member of Human Machine. Our debut was on this label and after 4 years we thought it was time to be back with a new ep on Engrave Ltd.
What’s up next after the release? Are you working on any other projects?
All of us are also involved in other projects as solo or alongside other artists. This is what we can say about the near future: Pavi will debut soon under his new alias Oou, Sisio is collaborating with Musumeci and they will release a new track that will appear on Musumeci’s next concept ep coming after summer on Engrave Ltd.
Musumeci is constantly working to developing the music platforms he have created in these years including, besides Engrave Ltd, also Multinotes and Buttress. Keep an eye on these labels! Musumeci has also in the pipeline a split ep on Multinotes called “Signature”, a 6 tracks release including 3 tracks from Lehar and 3 from himself.
Also, since we are in contact I’m sending you the upcoming releases on Buttress by Aldebaran and the next one of Odd1 on Engrave Ltd.
