The latest edition of our free download series welcomes ArchAngel. They create a fantastic etheral techno track titled “Hourglass”.
trndmsk: What inspired you to produce the track?
ArchAngel: What inspired me to produce the track is the state of euphoria i get when i imagine the sounds in my head. The punchy drums and bass with the oriental instruments and their melodies. And of course the vocals. Me and my brother have this passion for ethereal techno. The epic melodies and the dark vibe. We also have been raised in a certain type of music and heritage, and we found out that we can combine both of them we producer one of our first tracks ever “Your Absence” as a free download and we had a great feedback on it.
Where did you record it? And how?
The vocals in the track is a video i took on one of my very old phones. I recorded it for my friends grandfather he sang it when we were visiting him and couldn’t help it but to record it and i had no idea that i might use it in a track, but when i was messing around with my old phone and i found it i knew that im gonna do something with this. This type of singing is very special where i come from, the lyrics are talking about the betrayal of the time and destiny, how unfair the world can be sometimes, and its actually a poem.
The sound of the recording wasn’t good and it was kinda distorted so i made it sound like vintage old tape machine. While the oriental instrument i used in the beginning and in the break is Duduk. An Armenian old instrument that i really love, but in this track the Duduk wasn’t recorded for real. I have it as a kontakt instrument (Vst sound) and i played it on my keyboard.
Why do you want to provide it as a free download?
Since we started making music we started with free downloads on some recognized pages, and we’re still. First of all we’re not making music to make money out of it. I mean it would be great but this is not the reason we’re doing it at all. We want to get our voice as far as we can. We want to express our thoughts and feelings into music. to share how we see electronic music. We definitely want to release our music on a decent record lable and maybe sell our music but that will happen in the right time. Let’s just enjoy making music and give people the opportunity to enjoy it too.
What’s up next after the release? Are you working on any other projects?
We’re actually working on our first EP. Which is a bit different from this one. It’s not oriental anyhow. Its ethereal underground melodic techno. i have been working on it for over 2 months now and i finished tow tracks and i have one more to finish. then im gonna be looking for some labels that suits the vibes and sounds of the track in the EP and i hope i get lucky with that. But surely i will not stop making music like this. i will always combine techno with sounds from middle east.
